Hi friends!! This is my first oily testimony and I am over the moon excited to share it with you. It is simply about my number one oil love, peppermint, and why I love it so. My mom says that even from the time she can remember, I have been a child with stomach issues. When I was little I was rocked on my tummy constantly for being, well, gassy. Now, as a grown woman, while I am a little less gassy, the stomach issues still remain. Only worse.
At 25 I had my gallbladder removed. In case you are asking yourself, “isn’t that too young to have your gallbladder removed??”, the answer is yes. I should’ve had a second opinion, but the Dr I believed was trustworthy. (Side note: ALWAYS get a second opinion.) After my gallbladder was removed he said I was fine and I could go back to my normal life with minimal issues, nothing to be worried about. Eat what you want, he said. So, I did. I went back to my everyday life of eating what I wanted to and mostly not worrying because the Dr said so!
Fast forward about 2 years and I am in the emergency room in horrible, horrible pain. I assumed it was period cramping because everything just seemed to feel worse during that time. Well, 6 doctors, 4 ER visits, countless medication trials and a colonoscopy/endoscopy later, at only 28, they said “Lindsey, you have what we think is a small flare up of Ulcerative Colitis.”
Boom. That was it, that was all it took. I wanted answers and I wanted them right then. I made an appointment with a Vanderbilt doctor to get a SECOND (really a 6th, 7th and 8th!) opinion on all of this and the long and the short of it is that I did not end up having Ulcerative Colitis (thank you LORD!) but I did in fact have a severe, severe case of IBD. He recommended two things and two things only… no more dairy and way less caffeine.
So, the moral of the story is you guys, is that when I found these oils that I love so much, the first thing I researched was what oils help with tummy aches. Peppermint was one of the oils on the list and for me it worked the absolute best. Now, that being said it is by no means a cure. I still take one medication (which is way better than the 4 I was taking) but if I feel any kind of unease, or nausea like symptoms, I simply rub a little peppermint oil on my belly and all is well. But don’t just take it from me, do your own research! I am all the time hoping I can one day get in with a holistic doctor to confirm what I believe these oils have done for me but until that day I will just go with my own faith in them!
